Pick-Me-Up: Rough Waters…

“I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living.  Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD,” ~Psalm 27:13-14

“The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble.  He cares for those who trust in Him,” ~Zephaniah 1:7

From an early age, I became well acquainted with the push and pull of surf upon shore.

You see, my dad was an oceanographer and as such, he had a way of demystifying and deconstructing any romantic notions that I held about the sea.

Each life journey includes rough waters.

And so I learned that pounding waves, over time, chip away at rocky coastlines, rearranging and leaving behind the makings of summertime sandcastles…

Of course, inevitably, all of us face rough waters in this world.  I suspect, for many, now is such a time.

And the deep pounds and washes over even the most stalwart of hearts. At moments such as these, it’s a struggle to surface for air.

Whatever you do, hang on.

There’s infinite hope in this: the Master rides the untamed seas. Despite the thunder and headwinds you or I may face today, He will not allow these storms to ultimately overcome us.

The Master rides the untamed seas.

Recognizing that any new creation takes time, wait for Him. After all, in the hands of our loving Abba, that very fierce surf will reshape, rearrange and renew.

Yes, beyond rough seas is golden sand. And it’ll be worth it. Oh, so worth it…
